On the 44th anniversary of the establishment of Jahad University, the Research Institute of Medicinal Plants of Jahad University in Alborz Province unveiled its drug production line and the first specialized herbal drug fabrication laboratory (fablab). The ceremony, attended by Dr. Hassan Moslemi Naeini, the President of Jahad University, Dr. Reza Ghafarzadegan, the head of the Research Institute of Medicinal Plants, Engineer Hassan Mohammad Ali Zadeh, the Chairman of the Board of Alborz Research and Technology Fund, Dr. Neda Nikvash, the CEO of Wina Pharma, and other officials, focused on the importance of having a herbal drug fablab and the opportunities it creates.
The production line of the Research Institute of Medicinal Plants was recognized as the most suitable option for a specialized herbal drug fablab due to its necessary infrastructure, adherence to all standards, and having permission from the Food and Drug Organization. Establishing the herbal drug fabrication laboratory allows researchers, technologists, specialists, and academics active in this field to assess their ideas using laboratory equipment, and if they meet the necessary standards, proceed with the commercialization and market entry of their products. This platform effectively prevents the waste of resources and time while providing opportunities for the production of innovative products.
The head of the Research Institute of Medicinal Plants stated that there are 30 herbal drug technology units at the institute, 15 of which have been commercialized. In the newly launched production line, developed in collaboration with Wina Pharma, four herbal drugs— Liversil, Melitropic, Superplant, and Detoxin—will be produced on a large scale, with estimates indicating that these four products will also be sold in global markets within a year.
The Research Institute of Medicinal Plants of Jahad University, recognized as the most reputable center for medicinal plant research in the country and the region, co-founded the Alborz Research and Technology Fund to establish a joint venture company named Wina Pharma. The research and clinical trial phases for Wina Pharma’s products are conducted by the Research Institute of Medicinal Plants, and their quality and standards are certified by this center. Currently, the four products Liversil, Superplant, Detoxin, and Melitropic are being produced under the Wina Pharma brand at the institute's production line.
